Before seeing your child for therapy, an evaluation may be conducted. Standardization testing, observation, and parent interview will determine the need for ongoing services. A treatment plan will be developed to address your childs individual needs.

Therapy is provided in a one-on-one setting and can be done in 30, 45, or 60 minute sessions. Fun activites are incorporated into learning new skills and home carryover is recommended for continued progress and generalization.

Joy Speech & Dyslexia utilizes Neuhaus Basic Language Skills and supplemental curricula for dyslexia therapy. The Neuhaus Basic Language Skills uses an intensive, therapeutic curriculum that meets the guidelines of the Texas Dyslexia Law and is effective for students with dyslexia and other related disorders. This evidence-based curriculum shares similar philosophies and characteristics with other Orton-Gillingham-based curricula and provides structured literacy instruction in phonemic awareness, letter recognition, decoding, spelling, fluency, comprehension, handwriting, vocabulary, and oral and written expression. It is designed to be taught by a dyslexia therapist as a 50-60 minute session four or five times a week.

Oromyofunctional therapy treats Orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) which are abnormal movement patterns of the face and mouth that may interfere with normal growth and development of the muscles and bones of the face and mouth that are used for eating, talking, and breathing. Some children may push their tongue out when they talk, drink, or eat, also known as tongue thrusting, which is one type of OMD.
